On Tuesday, December 19, 2023, the official groundbreaking ceremony for RottaNova took place. Located in the heart of Rotterdam, between the Markthal and Laurenskerk, NEOO is developing this ambitious inner-city mixed-use project on behalf of Van Herk Groep, in close collaboration with the Municipality of Rotterdam.
The festive kickoff, led by Sander van Oss (NEOO), celebrated the start of construction. The event was graced by speeches from Alderman Chantal Zeegers of the Municipality of Rotterdam, Cyrille Duchateau of NEOO, and Erik Esveld of Van Herk Groep, the project’s owner and client. The contractor, construction consortium J.P. van Eesteren | TBI and Dura Vermeer, was also present. The celebration took place at the renowned Poffertjessalon Seth, located opposite RottaNova.
Designed by Frits van Dongen Architecten, RottaNova will feature 259 rental and owner-occupied apartments spread across two residential towers, as well as a commercial ground floor with space for hospitality, retail, creative workspaces, and a public bicycle parking facility.
This multifaceted project is being developed on a historically significant site, directly above the first sluice in the Rotte River, where Rotterdam was founded in 1270. In honor of this heritage, the construction site was made available for archaeological research after the initial preparations. The actual construction will commence after the summer of 2024, with completion expected by the end of 2027.
